The Aegean Championship Rugby 7's

For the fifth consecutive year, The Aegean Championship Rugby 7's will take place in Athens on the 6th and 7th of June of 2020!

After 4 successful years, the Aegean Cup enters into a new partnership with Holiday Your Fitness to become the Aegean Rugby 7’s Championship. We’d like to invite you to take part.

“What could be better than Rugby 7's in the summer sun of Athens, Greece, the cradle of democracy?”

Athens is a bustling modern capital city with great international transport links. During the day it’s a busy, noisy place which teems which boasts a fantastic café culture. The city comes alive at night as the dining and party gets underway. June temperatures are usually in the high 20s, with less than 5mm of rain on average. The weather certainly will not spoil your weekend!

The Aegean Championship will consist of 12 men’s and 12 women’s teams with cash prizes on offer for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed teams in both men’s and women’s Open competitions. In addition, there will be an under 17’s Tag Rugby festival for 4 teams. Qualified referees will officiate in all games, ensuring a great playing experience for every player.

A welcome dinner will take place on Friday 5th June where, besides the usual rugby fun, the pools will be drawn for both men’s and women’s competitions.

This exciting weekend of rugby will take place on Saturday, June 6th and Sunday 7th June 2020 with each match being filmed and uploaded to our YouTube channel, which can be viewed throughout the weekend and afterward. The fun will climax on Sunday with the Championship finals, which will be followed by to the 3rd half, the AFTER PARTY at a beach bar on the beautiful Athens coast!

Are there different levels for the teams that compete? 
NO, All the teams will compete at the same level in different divisions (Men's, Women's, U18). 

What if one member of the team is unable to come to the event a few days before? 
A member of the team can be replaced by someone else 1 day before the event. In case of an injury, the team can compete with fewer athletes.

What will the weather be like during the “The Aegean Championship Rugby 7's” week? 
The weather in June in Greece is mostly sunny and the temperature can be from 27-35 C during the day time and 22-28 C during night time.

Will there be medical support? 
Yes, we will have qualified staff for this reason.

Are there refreshing beverages and snacks to use during the event? 
Yes, our sponsors will be there to provide you with energy drinks, snacks and more. In addition, athletes will have access to coffee shops and restaurants.

 To participate in the tournament requires full acceptance of regulations:

  1. Athletes competing should understand that they are moving in an open, exposed to particular weather conditions that will prevail on that particular day of the match.
  2. Men and women of all ages are accepted.
  3. Participants who have not reached 18 years of age are required to submit a statement from their parents.
  4. Valid participation is considered to be valid after it has been paid off financially.
  5. The entry fee is €289 (early bird) per team subscription (up to 20 players & 1 coach) until March 31. From April 1 until the 30th of May (last day of entry) the entry fee will be €389.
  6. Any participant who decides to cancel/postpone his/her participation is not entitled to a refund.
  7. The event will take place on the 6th and 7th of June 2020.
  8. The rules and the type of events are described on the competition's website, which is an integral part of this regulation.
  9. Participants are obliged to fully comply with the regulations set by the organizer. They are also obliged to obey the suggestions of the individuals (eg. volunteers, reviewers) designated by the organizer. Failure to comply with the regulations or instructions will result in the exclusion penalty, with no refund or any other costs. Any person authorized by the event manager may record any infringement that he has perceived and report it to the event manager.
  10. Any marking of the space provided by the event manager is temporary, intended to serve the participants and is removed after the event.
  11. Athletes are involved at their own risk and the organizing authority is not responsible for any injuries they may have, as stated in the statement of responsibility or here. However, qualified medical personnel and a fully equipped ambulance will be available. There will also be rescue teams covering the event.
  12. Participants must have been examined by a physician who has judged them capable of participating in the particular event. Medical advice must not be older than 30 days from the last day of the event.
  13. It is strictly forbidden to dispose any kind of object during the whole event, such as plastic bottles or any other solid or liquid food packaging material used by athletes during the event. Disposal of packaging materials or other non-organic waste anywhere on the route beyond the predetermined, carries an exclusion penalty, no refund or any other costs.
  14. The event manager undertakes to supervise the field of play with specialized personnel in safety, rescue and medical assistance to the participants in need. In cases where security personnel and referees indicate to athletes that the event must be stopped for safety reasons, the latter is obliged to obey. Non-compliance means exclusion, no refund or any other costs.
  15. In case of need, the event manager reserves the right to postpone the start of the event in order not to endanger the physical integrity of the participants. In very extreme conditions he can cancel the event.
  16. Participant exclusion occurs for: a) Pollution of the site. b) Inappropriate behavior towards the organizing staff. c) Inappropriate behavior towards the spectators of the event. d) Non-compliance with these Regulations.
  17. The organizers are not responsible for the deaths, injuries or any damage to the health of the participants who, upon submitting their request for participation, declare that they are aware of the risks involved including those allegedly attributed to the negligent acts or omissions of the foregoing that their health status is good and allows them to participate, and they have recently been examined by a doctor on this subject. However, no participant will be required to submit a medical certificate. They are obliged to perform regular medical checkups in order to check their health status. The event managers disclaim any responsibility for the physical integrity of the participants, who should behave responsibly at any dangerous points on the route. The organizers disclaim any financial responsibility in the event of outside assistance to any athlete.
  18. Participants consent to be featured in photographs or any other media from the event, which shall be used exclusively to promote the event.
  19. A minimum of sixty percent (60%) capacity must be met for each category or division to take place.
  20. The organizers have the authority to modify the rules and regulations of the event, with no further notice.
